As the news on our players seem to be on hold until the new seasons start, here is another memory worth bringing up. Around this time last year, Maradona gave a statement that surprised quite a few people in the world of sports:
"Ronaldinho is my successor," proclaims Maradona. Barcelona's Brazilian striker, Ronaldinho Gaucho, received the ultimate compliment this Tuesday when an article published in Sport, hailed the star as Maradona's heir apparent. High praise indeed, especially when you consider the endorsement comes from none other than Diego Maradona himself. Speaking exclusively from his Buenos Aires home in an interview published on Tuesday, the legendary Argentinian proclaimed: "Ronaldinho Gaucho is my natural successor."
"Watching him play is just sheer delight," Maradona enthused; "he's a one-in-a million and simply on another level to his peers."

Ah, a blog dedicated to Brazil's national team. Appropriate not only for the history of Brazilian soccer, but also with the current timing - less than a year away from the World Cup Brazil are the oddsmakers' favorites to win the title. Curiously, Brazil have done best when they were not considered favorites, in years such as 1982, 1998 and, most infamously, 1950 they fell short. With the World Cup heading to Europe and Brazil installed as the favorites, should we, the fans, expect them to win? Or can we already write them off thanks to the pressure and expectations they already carry?
